Deeper Than a Zombie?

Before the recent resurgence in fandom, zombies were not thought much of besides as replacement to the mummy, but this time around the zombie has comeback with a bigger purpose. Today’s zombie films and television series have begun dig deeper than just a mystery virus that infects people out of thin air. Story writers have decided to include reasons on how the zombie virus begins and quickly takes control of the world. For example, the Resident Evil series has explored that plot of scientists creating a zombie virus that could be used as a weapon, but the virus then begins to grow out control like with most zombie apocalypses. This concept gives more clarity on how the world ended and how the survivors begin their new lives. Writers giving an origin to the virus can help viewers and readers connect with real-world diseases like influenza or even HIV/AIDS that has been affecting millions of people around the world today. Zombies are no longer than just a scary movie on a scary Saturday night, but it has become a gateway to shed light on the prevention and awareness of many diseases that have affected the world today.
